While women’s health is talked about quite frequently in magazines, on the news, and online, mens health seems to often fall by the wayside.  Many men don’t realize that there is a great deal of issues specific to their gender that should be looked into, particularly as they age.  One of the most common problems with mens health is prostate cancer.  This cancer is easily detectable, yet thousands of men die each year from it.  A simple test from your doctor can help determine whether or not your have prostate cancer, and it is easily treatable.  Another mens health issue is colon cancer.  A colonoscopy should be performed (this goes for women, too) at least every two years after the age of 40.  This is because as we age, our risk for colon cancer increases.  The test can look for any polyps in the colon or any signs of cancer. 
 
Some other mens health issues consist of the issue of fertility.  While some women are infertile for various reasons, men can also have issues with this, such as a low sperm count.  If you and your partner are trying to conceive, it may be a good idea to have a fertility test taken just to be sure all is well.  A newly talked about mens health problem is erectile dysfunction.  While this is still considered to be a very sensitive subject, new medicines like Viagra and Levitra are beginning to take the medical world by storm.  Now men don’t have to worry about these problems as much, as long as they are willing to talk to their doctors about it.  Mens health is an important part of their overall health, and should be something men are educated about so that they can talk to their doctors about any concerns or issues.
